WHEN IT COMES TO ENJOYING BRANDY, SIP WISELY BUT GO ‘NUTS’

WHEN IT COMES TO ENJOYING BRANDY, SIP WISELY BUT GO ‘NUTS’ Moving forward consistently with your fitness goals at times requires backing off boozy brunches or after-work alcohol indulgences. Julious Grant, founder of Omage brandy, is personally aware of the balancing act between staying fit and enjoying life every now and then. Before becoming one of the leading wine and spirits experts in the United States, Grant was a guard at Bethune Cookman University in the late ‘80s, where he averaged nearly 12 points a game his senior season. NFL GREAT VERNON DAVIS SINGS THE PRAISES OF PILATES

NFL GREAT VERNON DAVIS SINGS THE PRAISES OF PILATES Over the last two or three decades, professional athletes have put as much effort into training as they have the skill development that comes with their sport. This is very true when it comes to football players. Nowadays, teams have coaches and trainers specifically to help them in the weight room. When you saw Vernon Davis play, you could tell he was well acquainted with iron. He had one of the most impressive physiques in the NFL during his 14-year career. Nonetheless, as he told Zack Zeigler and Mike Myers on a recent episode of M&F Reps, he still felt the wear and tear of the game every day. “It takes a big toll on your body,” said Davis. “The key is to make sure you’re stable mentally, physically, emotionally, and just do all that you can to make sure that you can go out there and do what you have to do.” The Super Bowl 50 champion then added Pilates into his routine, and he felt it gave him new life on and off the field.

PRE-DAWN TRAINING WITH SPARTAN COFOUNDER JOE DE SENA IN SPARTA, GREECE

PRE-DAWN TRAINING WITH SPARTAN COFOUNDER JOE DE SENA IN SPARTA, GREECE A little after 5 a.m. a day before the 2019 Spartan Trifecta World Championships in Sparta, Greece, and I’m drinking Spartan Tea with Spartan Race cofounder and CEO Joe De Sena on the porch of a guest house that sits atop a mountain. We’re several miles outside of Sparta, killing time before our pre-dawn workout. What we’ll be doing when we train is a mystery, as De Sena met all of my inquiries with a shrug and “We’ll figure something out.” Later in the day, De Sena will be part of a press conference with Sparta city bigwigs and a handful of racers favored to win. After that, he’ll oversee a parade featuring elite racers from more than 68 nations vying for the title in their respective heat. His phone blows up with texts and emails as I ask him about raising kids, intermittent fasting (he’s been testing out a plan to eat between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to provide a four-hour cushion without food before hitting the sack)

WHITNEY JONES EXPLAINS HER CHAMPIONSHIP-LEVEL TOUGHNESS ON THE ‘FIT ROCKSTAR SHOW’ Three-time Fitness Olympia champion Whitney Jones wears several hats at once. Aside from being the No. 1 athlete in her division, she is also active in media as a co-host of Femme Flex Friday, she works as a coach, and most importantly, she’s a mom. Jones took some rare free time to sit down with Isabelle Turell on the Fit Rockstar Show, and she described her approach to all things in life – keep it real. “I don’t know how to fake much of anything. What you see is what you get,” she said with a smile. Jones journey and career hasn’t been easy. She may be most famous for overcoming ACL surgery to win the Fitness International and Fitness Olympia titles. She’s also had to back out of the Arnold one year due to a positive COVID test the week of the contest. As Jones told Turell, the reaction to what happens can be what matters most. “You have to take life for what it is and make the best of it,” said Jone

BOJANA VASILJEVIC AND CHRIS MINNES SHARE WHY THEY GOT INTO PROMOTING

BOJANA VASILJEVIC AND CHRIS MINNES SHARE WHY THEY GOT INTO PROMOTING The IFBB Pro League and NPC are about the athletes, but they aren’t the only component of putting on a bodybuilding show. Promoters are vital to the success of the sport of bodybuilding. IFBB Figure Pro Bojana Vasiljevic and owner of Center Podium Productions Chris Minnes understand that a bad experience can lead to a negative outlook on their industry. They explained how they came to that conclusion on Femme Flex Friday. “I had a huge, just bad experience after bad experience as an athlete,” Minnes said. “I was like, ‘we can do this better.’” Chris Minnes did just that. Even though he was still competing in 2011, he dove head first into starting his own show. After he secured a sanction, he put on his first show in Tahoe, California, and it was well-received by the athletes and people that attended. “It just kept growing, and we used the same business model that basically I started in Tahoe in 2011,” he told co-hos

HERE’S HOW NWA STAR KAMILLE DOMINATES IN PRO WRESTLING AND BODYBUILDING Long-time pro wrestling fans who yearn for some old school “wrasslin’” have helped the National Wrestling Alliance to re-emerge over the last few years as a fully-fledged promotion, now broadcasting weekly shows and special pay-per-view-events that are available to stream via FITE. There’s no doubt that while WWE and AEW offer cutting-edge graphics, pyrotechnics, and lighting on their grapple-based shows, the NWA has found its niche by keeping an old-school look and feel that harks to a magical era, bringing back fond memories of Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and the Von Erich’s lofty heyday. RYAN MONTGOMERY IS ONE OF COUNTRY MUSIC’S FASTEST RISING — AND FITTEST STARS

RYAN MONTGOMERY IS ONE OF COUNTRY MUSIC’S FASTEST RISING — AND FITTEST STARS Unless you’re a music star performing in front of thousands of people, or maybe a competitive physique athlete, you’ve probably never dealt with Ryan Montgomery’s dilemma come leg day. “Because I wear jeans on stage, and because of the upward angle, it makes my legs look bigger than they really are,” says the 23-year-old country music artist, who’s gracing more stages than ever these days. “You get those fricking big legs in the jeans, and it makes your upper body look awful on stage. So, I’m always trying to achieve a balanced look.” Whatever Montgomery’s doing in the gym is translating nicely to his music career. Young as he is, he’s been at it for over a decade already. The South Florida native started writing music and performing at age 12, after first picking up a guitar at age 5. At 18, he was playing live at bars. The next year he “got the crazy idea to take my truck out to the middle of a tailgate be
